Craftmaster Restoration offer a high quality service for all your heritage restoration needs. Coupling the woodworking traditions of Clive Brown and family who operate Craftmaster Paints, with the steam and general engineering skills of Jamie Allen, there are few projects we cannot undertake. Please get in touch with details of your special project, we’ll be delighted to hear from you. We aim to provide an end to end solution for all of our restorations.
Our team has extensive experience of steam engineering across a wide variety of steam vehicles. Jamie has worked at the Nene Valley Railway as a steam fitter for many years, and has turned his hand to all manner of jobs relating to road steam. Recommissioning steam cars, fettling miniatures, boiler replacement on a Sentinel Steam Wagon, and all the usual run of the mill machining, repairs and renewals needed to run steam engines reliably.
Whilst we don’t undertake full boiler rebuilds, we are happy to take on smaller projects, like re-tubes, stay replacement and minor welding (using a fully coded welder). Please contact us for specifics. We are also happy in certain circumstances to attend your site to undertake such work (and are fully insured to do so).
We have a fully equipped machine shop, and can undertake all manner of bespoke machining tasks, turning, milling etc. We also have access to skilled fabricators and a variety of contractors sourced via long experience. There is little we can’t turn our hands to.
Our family has been in the woodwork business since the 1980s, so there is little we can’t turn our hands to. Coach built cabs and bodies, railway carriages, fairground equipment and everything in between. Check out the photos of the joinery work on our ERF Showmans Tractor, every piece of wood in the body was paintstakingly replaced and 80% of the original aluminium skin retained.
When vehicles (steam or otherwise) have been laid up for a number of years, it isn’t always wise to attempt to operate them without a thorough check. We are more than pleased to receive your vehicle and undertake the full process of bringing it back to life, following a full assessment and suggestion of further works to bring it into top order.
We are happy to consider full restoration projects. So far we’ve rebuilt our own ERF Showmans Tractor after decades on the sea front at Great Yarmouth, and the stunning ERF Brewery Lorry for a customer in Kent (check out the Projects page).
